Landmarks, Lakes, Rivers

  • The shores and waterways of Georgian Bay are a traditional domain of the Anishinaabeg First Nations peoples to the north and Huron-Petun (Wyandot) to the south. The bay was a major Algonquin-Iroquoian trade route.

  • Georgian Bay is about 190 kilometers (120 mi) long by 80 kilometers (50 mi) wide. It covers approximately 15,000 square kilometers (5,800 sq mi) with over 31,000 islands. The bay is fed by many large rivers like the French River, Pickerel and Key Rivers.

  • The crystal clear waters of Big Tub Harbour offer fishing for Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, Whitefish and Herring.

  • Sturgeon Bay, located near the town of Waubaushene provides huge area with clear water and has fishing for Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Muskellunge and Walleye. 

  • Honey Harbour is a cottagers paradise with hundreds of islands providing shelter from the rough waters of Georgian Bay.  The most common species targeted here are Walleye, Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass and Muskellunge

  • Collingwood Harbour gives a unique opportunity to fish just off of main street. The harbour holds Smallmouth Bass as well as Rainbow Trout.

  • Parry Sound is a large natural harbour with access to Kilbear Provincial Park.

  • French River Delta is made up from hundreds of islands and narrow channels through which the French River drains into Georgian Bay. The area offers endless fishing opportunities.

  • McGregor Bay is located between Whitefish Falls and Killarney Provincial Park. The area offers excllent multi-species fishing that includes Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Lake Trout, Salmon, Rainbow Trout and Muskellunge.

  • North Channel between Manitoulin Island and the mainland is a popular boating area due to its calm and clear waters.
