Timmins - The city's economy is based on natural resource extraction, and is supported by industries related to lumbering, and to the mining of gold, zinc, copper, nickel and silver. Gold discoveries in the Porcupine Camp during the early years of the 20th Century attracted investors to the area.
Kesagami Lake - Entirely protected within Kesagami Provincial Park, it is notable in particular for its trophy pike and walleye fishing. Its shores are almost entirely surrounded by Peat cliffs which have long been recognized as "exceptional".
Missinaibi Provincial Park - A 500 km long provincial park, encompassing large lakes, scenic waterfalls and outstanding whitewater. A variety of unique camping experiences: Barclay Bay Campground on Missinaibi Lake; interior boat and canoe sites on Missinaibi Lake; backcountry canoe sites on hundreds of kilometers of Missinaibi River. In the heart of the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve, the world’s largest wildlife preserve.
Lake Abitibi is on the border of Ontario and Quebec north of Kirkland Lake. It is the largest lake in the region covering over 900 square kms. The lake is a great fishery for Walleye, Yellow Perch and Northern Pike.
Night Hawk Lake is located in the city of Timmins and is a popular fishing lake for Walleye and Northern Pike.
Kapuskasing River offers excellent fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike as well as Lake Sturgeon.
The great Abitibi River flows from Lake Abitibi to James Bay and offers excellent fishing over the 540km. The main species are Walleye and Northern Pike, but Lake Trout, Speckle Trout and Rainbow Trout are also caught regularly.
