Landmarks, Lakes, Rivers

  • Lake Superior is the largest fresh-water lake in the world by surface area,and the third-largest by volume, holding 10% of the world's surface fresh water. More than 80 species of fish have been found in Lake Superior.

  • Lake Superior Provincial Park - one of the largest provincial parks in Ontario covering 1500+ square kilometers running along the shore of Lake Superior. The park has many angling opportunities both in Lake Superior as well as many inland lakes which can be accessed by canoe and hiking trails.

  • Pukaswa National Park covers an area of 1800+ square kilometers near the town of Marathon.

  • Slate Islands - The waters surrounding the Slate Islands have been protected from commercial fishing to preserve one of the last native stocks of Lake Trout in Lake Superior. The Islands have been a source of lake trout broodstock used at the Dorion Fish Hatchery, and fingerlings are planted back to Lake Superior to restore the fishery.
